Dedications

I was driving home from picking up Jordan at school and I've learned that in order for him to tell me what he did at school I have to ask very specific questions.

Me: "Jordan, what did you do today in writing workshop?"
Jordan: "We worked on titles and dedications."
Me: "Who was your dedication to?"
Jordan: "I wrote, to my Mom and Dad because I love you so much..."
Me thinking, oh that's so sweet of my darling boy...
Jordan continuing: "and to all the Ice Cream Makers because I love Ice Cream so much."

So yes...Jordan loves us...as much as the Ice Cream Makers around the world ;)

New face

Sydney: "Mom, I want a face like Hannah Montana!"

Me: "Why would you want that, you have a beautiful face?"

Sydney: "She doesn't have freckles, her face is plain."

Me: "Sydney, your freckles are so beautiful."

Sydney with a flat tone of voice: "Mom, they are brown spots that just sit on your face."

After that, I just tried not to laugh and convinced her that she was beautiful with her freckles! ;)

Valentine's Night

We take turns every other year planning Valentine's Day. This year, I planned it. We went to our FAVORITE resturant, Neptune. It's a little fine dinning resturant in Blaine. Amazing food. We love it every time we go. One time we sat at the bar and watched them cook everything. I could've sat there for hours it was so much fun. Anyway, then we went to Romeo and Juliet at the Children's Theater in Minneapolis. It was a promenade style of theater. You walk onto the set and are right there next to the actors as they are acting out the play. We could reach out and touch them. You move around if you can't see. It's quite fascinating. The actors have to be that much better and really sell the part because there is no space between them and the audience. They did a great job and we loved it! Although it is a tragedy ;) We sat on the wall most of the night and got a great view of everything. I highly recommend that style of theater.

Valentine's day

On Valentine's day, we brought the kids to Lake Hiawatha for a Warm the Heart Celebration. They had skating, bonfire that you could roast marshmallows, slay rides, free hot dogs and hamburgers, crafts for the kids, cookies and hot drinks, prizes, and live music. It was a ton of fun. It was about 3 hours long and we ended up going toward the end of the day (ok...it was because we slept in REALLY late ;) ). The kids opted to do crafts instead of go on the slay ride. They skated in their boots (we didn't think to bring their skates), played at the park, learn to write in chineese and won a free acuputure session! Everything was free. I'm marking my calendar for next year.

My house

We moved into this house in October of 2002. When we moved in all the walls were white. We left them that way for about a year and then proceeded to pick out colors that we'd like to change the walls. About 3 or 4 years ago we painted our kitchen and dinning room. We were thrilled and loved having color back on our house...but never got motivated to paint the rest. We've finally done a couple more rooms. We painted the entry way and the living room. It makes it look a bit smaller, but it's so warm and cozy and that's what we were going for. We now need to paint the upstairs hallway, the family room and the downstairs bathroom.....someday anyway :)

A Winter/Spring Walk

A couple of weeks ago when the temperature was so amazing, the kids and I went on a walk to the park. After several months of winter, nice weather is so refreshing! My kids who aren't "walkers" walked the whole time without complaining, in fact, ran most of it. It makes me long for spring and playing outside! I love Minnesota because every season is "My Favorite" for different reasons! I love spring because everything is budding and it smells fresh and you can play outside again! I know i'm counting my chickens before they are hatched and there is lots more snow to come, but I'll enjoy whatever I get!

The best teacher

During Jordan's parent teacher meetings last week, Jordan's teacher told us this story with tears in her eyes. Jordan's teacher had some surprise medical needs and had to quickly leave her class one day and go to the hospital (she's fine and everything turned out good). She grabbed a pile of papers to correct while she was waiting. She was sitting in the waiting room waiting for some tests results feeling overwhelmed and in a lot of pain and she looked at one of Jordan's papers. On the front bottom of the paper, under all his school work he wrote, "ples look on the bak". She flipped the paper over and it said, "At school Miss Horton is the best techre in the wrld. I am serise (serious)!" She said she showed her mom and said, "Isn't this the sweetest thing...that's the kind of class i have." She told us, that it was such a "Jordan" thing to do and it made her day! She said, "Most kids would never think to do that." I have to say it made us very proud!

Good night!

Both kids really love when I sing to them at night. Sydney has two songs, a lullaby and prayer that she learned at school and Jordan loves when I sing "The Lord's Prayer". I find it kind of funny that he enjoys it so much, but both of them when I start singing close their eyes and get a sweet closed mouth smile on their faces like they are just in heaven. Last night, they decided to sleep together, so I sang The Lord's Prayer for both of them, only instead of closing their eyes and listening, they both decided to sing with me. They don't know all the words, but a good lot of them and they got pretty into it. I was trying so hard not to laugh. I wish i could put a recording of it on this blog. It was incredibly funny and sweet and amazingly hard to sing and not laugh. It definately melted my heart and gave me a pretty good chuckle!

FYI: Jordan's favorite part of the song is the "AMEN".

"I love you"

Jordan has been going through this really sweet stage where he many many times a day will stop and say, "Mom...I love you." It's been going on for over a month now and I've just been living it up. I love that he just couldn't help himself and he says it in such a sweet voice that it would melt me. We were in the car driving and he said, "Mom." "What Jordan?" I answered. "I love you." Then he continued, "You know mom, when I forget what I wanted to say, I just say I love you instead. That's why I say it a lot...I forget what I'm going to tell you." Talk about popping my bubble! I still pretend he says it because he really means it and not because he just "forgot" what else he was going to tell me! ;)

I had a wedding fair in Grand Rapids this weekend. I left home about 8pm Friday night, right before the kids went to bed and got home the next day about 7pm. Sydney had gotten to play at two different friends houses and had just a blast the entire day! She was telling all about the different things she played and the fun things that she did. I asked her what her very favorite part of her day was...she said, "Seeing you because I missed you so much when you were gone!" Talk about wrapping me around her little finger!

I do have some sweet kids! ;)

What I want to be...

We were driving home from Jordan's parent teacher conferences and he was letting us know what he wanted to be when he grew up. There was teacher, President (of the United States), photographer, USBanker, Scientist, Inventor and Bus Driver. I feel like at least the kid has his options open. I was happy that the range was from "bus driver" to President and that he feels like they are equally great occupations. He also did tell me that when he is the President, he will be on the show Wipeout on ABC because no President has been on that show and he could make extra money doing it! That's my boy! ;)
